i recently sold my convict army and i now have an empty tank! i thought it would be nice to start a planted tank! i am new to planted tanks so i need a lot of help!

to start out with the tank is 15 gallon 24'' 12'' 12''.

the lighting is going to be - 2 x 9 watt 6700k lights, 9 '' compact

from the little research ive done ive seen that Java moss/ fern is very hardy and easy to grow. i have also heard of Hygrophila polysperma aka. miramar weed aka. indian water weed. i will attach a photo

the substrate is 2'' of quarts sand

is there anything else i need?
any other information and tips would be very much appricated.
thank you.

Wendetii, Crypts, should also do well. I've got some i've had for years, that just wouldn't die. I do well with Rotallia Indica as well, looks very similar to what you posted, though i think it's a small leaf. I'm pretty new to the whole "plant tank" set-up myself. Java moss does well once established but needs alot of pruneing once it gets going, Or it can and will take over your tank! I also keep cherry shrimp, and in another tank ghost shrimp to help clean things up. and snails you get on plants, personally have also helped alot and sift my base. It's very neat to peer into a lil' biome I have now. potted plants are more expensive but are alot hardier then just getting cuttings. And make sure when your looking at plants it's aquatic! it may sound funny but many petstores sell plants that aren't ment to be fully submerged for a length of time. Also depends on what your stock is gonna be for the tank. I have some cardinal tetras and cherry shrimp in my 20gallon, and my 2 10's have mollies, and guppies. the guppies and mollies don't destroy plants but they can prune them back quite abit depending what kind you get.

the reactor part is great but i don't understand the power filter diffuser method..i wish an example with a picture was shown of that!

from what i take from it; u stick the airline straight into the intake of the filter? is that correct? i have an AC 20 on my 15 G i don't think an airline would fit inside the intake...

here goes
c02.jpg
c02 enters the container while the power head is blowing down into
the aquarium gravel. The c02 bubbles will alway try to escape upwards
an thus the power head will continualy mix c02 into the water.

the pic looks crap, but ive seen people do some cul diy difusers on youtube
hope it helps
