Well those are overflod boxes... You attach them to a sump you could plug them up with bulkheads and then blocking the bulkheads but I would just either make or buy a sump they are great filters

You don't need to plug the holes. Just don't fill the tank full enough so water doesn't overflow into the overflow boxes. Better yet get a sump and put them to good use.

those are built in overflows that connect down under the tank to a sump/wet dry filter. you can buy premade sumps/wet drys or you can easily build your own. check out the DIY section for some great ideas to help save money.

looks like a really nice set up you got there.

You can find some killer ones on ebay for fairly cheap are you useing it as salt or fresh?

yep i like the set up i got it for cheap so i snapped it up.if im gona do a sump if thats all i need il just buy one because i havnt got a clue how to build one so il just look into it a bit more and hopefully get a cheap enough one.and if i can im gona stick fresh water in there i already have a 55 gal with arowanas and clown knife fish in it and needed 2 buy a bigger 1 for them cos ther starting to grow fast

I have the same tank... here are some pics of my pipework and sump:
