I have a 26" Silver Arowana in a 200 gallon aquarium and has stopped eating for 2 weeks now.

This all started after I had an incident with my over head filter piping coming off and the tank being drained down really low. I heard some commotion in my fish room and upon checking noticed that the piping popped off and water was spraying out of the tank (yes had a slight flood in the fish room), lucky I keep no electrical on the floor. Piping secured so this incident never occurs....1st time in 3 years aquarium running....I guess there is a 1st time for everything!!!

I estimate about 40 gallons or so was left in the aquarium. I added about 40/50 gallons of new dechlorinated water so the tank was filled nearly halfway. I slowly introduced new water every other day until aquarium was fully filled.

When the water level was low I guess during the commotion my aro injured his wiskers and lost 2 scales (Wiskers now healed). Aro shares the tank with a RTC and SRS Flowerhorn. RTC and SRS FH are fine and eating regularly. I cant get Aro to eat his regular food from fish fillets, shrimp, etc.

I also checked water parameters with my API kit. Ammonia = 0, Nitrite = 0, Nitrate = 5, PH = 8 (hard water where we live). Haven't changed water since the incident but will be performing water change today.

Tanks is also bare tank so no decorations, nothing has significantly changed (other than the incident).

Please help!!!!

I find that my arowana can't resist live crickets... I've read around here that that's a good way to get them to start eating again. It's probably stressed out right now, from what I gather arowana's can go long periods of time without food. The bigger they are the longer the interval they can stand to not have food... And sounds like your guy is really big. Good luck with your aro, maybe the more expert members here can be of more help. Probably keep the water pristine too

maybe because you are adding water everyday that's why it adds stress to him again and again while he's in the state of recovering..

Thanks for everyone's reply. Was just worried as it been a little past 2 weeks now and still not eating. I will be patient, continue trying to feed my Aro and hopefully soon he will start to eat. I will try and get some crickets and see if that helps bring his appetite back.

I was adding water every other day because I didn't want to add majority new water at one time right after the incident...gradual increase in new water.
