Hi there,
i have x 15 inch dats, one St and the other a wide bar.

usually the wide bar is more subdued, the ST is active as hell. eating lots too. i moved them to the new tanks 3 weeks ago or just a little over. in the tank is a 11 inch oscar and 1 tin foil barbs.

The oscar was with them in the other tank and i moved them together, The oscar doesnt attack, and visa versa.

what im finding is that the wide bar is scratching itself on the ground more often, though it has always done this once in awhile, but this time a little more to the point where wounds have come up, now healed and i put melafix in the tank.
it snot eating, and it sits at the top of the tank facing the outlet of the filter as if just sitting facing it.the ST is eating sometimes but not its usual self, also not very active. the oscar is eating and seems normal, the tinfoil also.

water parameters are fine, filter is MASSIVE so thats fine.
temp WAS 28 ish, google says should be 22 to 26 celcius so i put it down to 26 celcius.

1) is this just stress? and needs to re aclimatise to the new tank
2) Should i Lower the temp Or leave it or increase it. i actually turned the heater of, the garage is warm ish with my other tanks so the temp on this tank seems to have stayed at 26, ill see tommoow cos i turned it off today - maybe it will go lower.
3) whats happening here, anyone seen his before.

its as if they are acting like dats in the pet shop hiding but they are too big to hide, so thy cant, but they are shy and just not active.

help@! :(

Datnoids have a tendency to fight.

how long have you kept them together?

From reading your post, I think he is stress out!! I wouldn't worry about the oscar, I think it is the other dat is causing damage.

I personally have several small one in my tank and the dominate dat usually chases the other around.

My recommendation, re-arrange your tank or get a couple more dat to lessen the aggression.

in regard to him not eating, give him some time or move him into a different setup.

hope this help!

post your tank setup so we may see.

the two dats are together since 1 inch
they have been toether 10 years, ever faught, i have had them for 1 year, never faught.

if anything might be stress from moving
the temp?
is 25 to 26 c
that should be ok?

maybe just time
they are hiding on the top of the tank, by the cornerjust that they are so damn huge that they cant hide lol
but they are actin glike skitish dats you see in pet shops that are 2 inches big, just that these guys are 15 minimum inches.

both of them are doing it
should i remove the oscar?
tin foils are constantly swimming around as they usually do - do you think thats alarming them?
should i remove them?

how is your lighting? Too bright will cause them to hide. any plants and/or drift wood in tank.

The Ph could have a factor with them stressing out.

give them some time to get use to the Ph and new setup!!

First off, St is a widebar. What are you feeding them? Bad feeders? If your dat is scratching constantly, I would check the gills for flukes or redness and inflamation. The temp should be fine. Dats can handle some heat. My heater broke and cooked all my other fish but my dats were just swimming like normal.

sorry
indo
and wide bar lol my booboo

no no redness
scratching but not now, i dont see them doing it now actualy
they just kinda try to hide
the tank is pretty bare
to give them plenty of space for swimming

i have been doing water changes 3 times weekly for the last couple of weeks
maybe i hold this off?

perhaps let them get used to the ph?
or get something to lower ph?

4 foot x 60 depth, 8 height
ok, so neutral is ok, they were in this tank alreayd befre, then i moved them and moved them back again.

so they now the tank, i guess they just need to settle in.
