If you use a carcass and face frame construction like the one above, you might run into the problem of the plywood not being wide enough. A sheet is exactly 4 feet wide. Depending on the exact width you need, taking into account the plastic frame on the tank, you might not be able to cut a piece across the width of a full sheet of plywood. If you have to cut your long piece parallel to the length of the sheet, you will have more waste, and it may not be cost effective. It also depends on your experience level in working with wood. You have to be much more precise with your cuts if you make it like the one above, since the edges of the plywood acts as the supporting surface for the tank. Making one out of 2x4's is a little more forgiving.
