Just wanted to know from you guys what exactly it is that i need to get started in saltwater aquariums. I am planning on getting something small to start out with( probably 20 gallon), but i have no clue all the equipment and why you need it for saltwater.

If you got some time and want to help please chime in :D

Hm lets see. normally need live rock and sand, protein skimmer in some cases, filtration in some cases to supplement live rock and sand, salt obviously...
I doubt you want to start out as reef so that helps.

I hear maintenance is easy. Just top of water and vacuum out any waste.

I'd love to start something myself, but I just don't have the desire to start yet.

Its not that bad, I would personally go for a tank alittle bigger IMO, the higher the volume the easier it is to keep all the parameters in check.

All you really need is:
bag of salt

substrate (crushed coral or sand) <- either is fine but make sure you get a type of sank that naturally buffers your water as you want a high pH.

hydrometer(to test specific gravity)

testing kits

and once you have the salinity right add you some liverock

thats all i can think of at the moment

please use search feature located on the top left, i feel like every week we get the same old questions, over and over again. it is to the point where i rather not reply then retype everything all over again. there are plenty of threads (i can think of 3 off hand) in the past week that cover the basics of starting a saltwater tank. it's not hard, just time very involved.

thanks for being a smart ass and not using the search in the first place where you could have found the answer to your questions a lot sooner then waiting around for a reply. so, since your too lazy to search here are 4 threads dealing with starting a new saltwater aquarium.

Thanks.

I decided to make my own thread because i would eventually post pictures here for the people that helped me out in the beginning.

But meh, thanks for "Wasting your o so precious time" on searching for me :)

Everyone chill. Whooosah. Breathe.

Alright...now the thing about threads like this is that we DO answer these questions way to many Gdang times.

Best thing to do with a thread like this is post: "Gruntking's 20g" then you read as much as you possibly can (you should be doing this now anyways) and instead of being so general (hard for us to answer, so you get lousy answers) you ask very specific questions and or trouble shooting ones.

Welcome to our corner of the forum, we are actually getting a pretty good group started here....just need a few more people to keep it really active.
