Can't really seem to find the edsal racks for a double 40 breeder setup that I'm going to do. So, I've managed to get the green light from my parents to just build myself a stand. I've been looking around online, but I can't really find a comprehensive guide to doing this kind of double rack. Anyone here mind helping me out with planning it?

Again to make this a but clearer: I need help designing a stand for two 40 breeder tanks.

Go to YouTube search for King of DIY. He may even lurk the forums as Uarujoey. The simple DIY rack where you have 2x4's on end carrying the load is going to be more than enough to hold two 40 breeders.

You may be able to get away with just screws - but why take the chance when an extra $2 in lumber erases all doubt?

There is also a 'tool less' stand build which utilizes cinder blocks - you can find instructions on YouTube if you search Aquarium Co-Op.

I'll go hint for links!

Thanks! Crap I forgot all about Joey's videos lol. I can't really do the cinder block option though since I have a wooden floor and live in an apartment. I'll give Joey a check and then come back here with any questions.

Here's the one that uses screws to support the weight. I'd probably consider this for smaller tanks if they were in my garage, but I wouldn't rely in hardware to bear the weight for any tanks in my living space - but I'm paranoid:

You could incorporate the best of both Joey's styles by adding vertical 2x4 supports to carry the load on the second style of rack. That would be ideal.

One thing you should also consider is adding a diagonal 1x4 from top corner to opposite bottom corner on the back to give it rigidity. Any sort of backing would give you the support you need, but a single diagonal board would be the least expensive.

And depending on where you live (earthquake zone?) or if there are little kids around who could climb on it, you may also want to secure the whole thing to the wall.

I know this may seem a bit dumb, but I may need instructions/diagram lol

just make sure you absolutely have a diagonal piece of 2x4 ok the back or even better, a thin plywood backer. you could pain it matt black and skip the aquarium background.

the reason is those 2x4 racks are strong enough to hold the weight but are very prone to racking. the woodworker term for being "wobbly" side to side.

cheers
