I wanted to throw this out there because I had the experience first hand.
When I first decided to keep fisha stunning 10 months ago, I found a used 29g tank with a crappy filter and crappy decorations that I thought was a steal at $75. I immediately went out and bought my favorite live fish eater.....a 3" oscar. Within a month, I knew my fish needed more space, but I had a crappy job and couldn't find a deal to save my life. Finally, I stumbled upon a guy selling a 55g tank, stand, canopy, tops, lights, a fluval 404, and some accessories for $200. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford the tank, but I sent him an e-mail telling him about myself and my desire to be a part of the hobby. He responded with a new price offer of $125, and even threw in 5 larger african cichlids. If I wouldn't have goten this deal, I may have never joined this hobby. He said when he was starting out, someone older and wiser gave him a good deal and it sparked the hobby for him.
Its been about 8 months since then, and I have already decided that when it comes time to sell my tanks for bigger better things, I'm going to find a new hobbyist, and give them a great deal, and all the helpful advice I can offer. Many people can't afford a huge pristine tank, but you can help them. Spread the hobby, and the ]V[onster movement by helping out someone in need. Its a truly rewarding experience on both ends.
