hey guys so today i got a new albino oscar cichlid from petsmart. i acclimated it and then put it in. after like 4 minutes, it floated towards a corner and has been sitting there ever since. it just sits still and sometimes leans over like its about to sleep or something, then it gets back up then leans over again.. i had checked the perameters and they were perfect. it was moving alot and very active at petsmart... any suggestions? heres a picture of what he/she looks like...

IMG_1199.JPG as you can see.. hes just leaning and sitting there.. for the WHOLE DAY!! i also added some stress zyme (aloe vera formula) to help it destress but it hasnt done much..

He's not sick he's doing what Oscar's do. Give him a few days and he will calm down and act normal. When Oscar's are mad or stressed they do this. Your going to find him to do that very often for a few months until he gets super comfortable.

put some things in tank that he can feel somewhat hidden or kind of like a shelter. He's holding still trying to be invisible ;-)

Mine still pouts and goes hiding in the corner whenever I do water changes etc. They just throwing a fit. Give him hiding places and keep an eye on him

Put more gravel in the tank, there's allot of mirroring in your tank where he is. Might help

ahhh ok.. oh yeah.. how often should i clean filter pads, how often should i clean out a whole filter, and how often should i change out activated carbon and ammonia? i have a 30 gallon with hang on the back filter with 2 filter pads with activated carbon, and i have a 110g with 2 canister filters with activated carbon in them and filter pads also..

my albino oscar was also like tht when i first bought it about 3 days ago. at night i blocked the light from getting into my tank. now he's eating big and well. he's just fine. btw, if it's full after a meal, it will also do this habit just to rest. hahah. weird though. i kinda get a little frustrated when it does this. hahah

Remove the carbon its useless put some ceramic rings in its place. I clean my filter pads when water flow starts to decrease, by clean I mean rinse out in a bucket of tank water.

Are your filters cycled? is the plan to move him to the 110gl? he will outgrow the 30gl in the next 2-3 mths.

I agree with the posts above on adding more gravel to prevent the mirror effect and at that size give him something to hide behind or in. Other than that turn out the light and give him a couple of days to adjust to his new home.
