Do you buffer or add salts to your Tang set-up?

no i do not

Should as buffers or use aragonite.

i use a lot of petrified rock for the rock work in the tank

Add some buffers for the water or put some aragonite in the filter..

They are rather softwater fish, I would find another tank for them, if possible.

What he said, Their water requirements are different. The Africans require
a hard, high ph water while the pleco would prefer soft.
I would not use any kind of buffering agent or seperate them.

the pleco has to stay there only till i get my pleco tank
which will take a week or two
will he do fine there till then
and will also be getting a lemon spot pleco and a few bristle nose plecos
and may be a royal pleco
the tank will be a 55g tank and will have large quantities of driftwood and java moss *may be*
