Hi, I have a boulengerella maculata ( mosaic gar or whatever you want to call it) and a tiger musky that are both about 6" long and growing at about the same rate. The gar has been in the tank longer than the musky. Every time the musky has an encounter with another fish (puffer biting his fin or crappie coming face to face with him, etc.) the gar comes over right after and kind of runs into the musky with his nose. This has happened multiple times ad one time the gar even opened his mouth but did not bite. In the past they have kind of hung out together and sat next to eachother in the tank so is the gar looking after the musky and making sure hes ok or protected or is he showing his dominance and maybe trying to fight or attach the musky? PICS of them too!

Not sure what we're supposed to be seeing in those pictures, but a musky is pretty much guaranteed to kill those tankmates. It will outgrow and eat most things you throw at it.

If the musky lives long enough it will surely clean out your tank of the others but it sounds as if it has enough to deal with between the puffer and the other fish and it may succomb to stress. If that musky was hard to come by,or even if it was'nt I would get rid of whatever else is giving it the least ammount of trouble,at the very least, the puffer has to go if it is doing to much nipping or the torn fins could become infected.

I want your musky!!! ^^ He is right!

The puffer is gone..... I dont really care about my other fish very much except for my gar and they are growing the same pace. I have them in a 75 gallon but I am going to get a 300 gallon horse stock tank when they get between 10"-12". Then just keep those two

not a gar. sry

I know exactly what it is, exactly why i wrote the scientific name. But many people commonly call it a gar because they dont want to write or say boulengerella maculata. Why are there so many d- bags on these forums ?

2 things.

1 that is name calling and is a no no. plz do not become a douche(not calling u one) we have enough on this forum

2 i missed that. my bad. :chillpill: and pull ur head out of ur butt
