My 28'' silver aro Jumped out of my tank while feeding, hit my ceiling 8' high and landed about 6' from tank on to my tile floor and flapped to the other side my basment. I quickly grabbed him and put him back in the tank!! injuries: scratches on both sides, lost 3 scales. This happened about 2 weeks ago, it took 4 days for him to eat and ate half the amount he usually eats. He ate 5 smelt and then the next day he only ate 1. He has not eaten after that, his swimming pattern seems to be the same and how he interacts with the other fish is the same, so i don't think he has brain damage. He usaly eats from my hand and comes over to the side of the tank when i open the hatch, and waits for food, but since the jump he won't come over to me and is acting skittish. I tried feeding him his favorite food and didn't even look at it. its been 4 days since he ate that 1 smelt. what should i do? i added fish keeper, salt, and stress coat the very next day after the jump!! and my water quality is good. temp 80.5 F

THANKS!!!

He should recover just give him some more time. Might want to bump temp up (84F should be normal temp) cause 80F is a lil cool also add a little salt to help him heal if you own loaches then do half dose salt. Dosage for salt is usually 1tspoon per 5 gallon but with loaches do 0.5 tspoon per 5 gallon assuming that you dont have any salt in your tank already.

Keep good water parameters and be patient. Aros are one of those kinds of fish that everything takes longer than expected.

Beef up your lid arrangement !

28" nice aro.

give him some time most fish are like that when they drop and or get injured maybe another few weeks to let his insides heal

my flagtail jump out twice hitting the cieling and dropping 8 feet to the ground while I was trying to catch clown loaches. Anyway the flagtail was pretty banged up.... given 1 week the fins healed up and eating lots again =D
Just give some more time....

HI,

My 13 inch aro had jumped out to 3 feet high and 5 feet across; was absolutely banged up with losing about a dozen scales, a couple of gills; the lower fins were totally banged up and only shreads were hanging out. It took me 3 weeks of Tetramycin and a week of Metafix to cure her. Shew would eat lil to noe for the 1st week and was skittish for almost a month and half. Now she is 18 inches and rules her space.

Seems like your aro is already recovering.

Keep lights low or dark and bump temp high.

Thanks for all your advice everyone, my aro is back to normal just fed it a large mouse yesterday :D i also added a led lunar moon light to both my tanks. my aro seems to like the light he doesn't get spooked at night any more, my basment is pitch dark at night and i thought he might need some light, besides it looks really cool, and makes the water shimmer.
