how long can cichlids last without filtration. The area that i live in has had no electricity for the last 4 and a half hours. Heat is no an issue as the weather is hot and room temperature is at 78.

I have 5 tanks running.

a 150 gallon with a pair of young dovii in it
a 90 gallon with 2 to 4 inch umbee and festae growouts
a 55 gallon with a young pair of cubans
a 55 with a young pair of flowerhorns
a 20 gallon with baby dovii fry growing out. They are half an inch big

any help would be greatly appreciated

They should be fine without filtration for awhile. Its the oxygen levels i would worry about.

Possible try battery powered bubblers if u have them. Or do some small water changes. It doesnt seem like your tanks are heavily stocked so you should be alright for awhile though.

Your tanks are not over crowded so they will last a loooong time. If oxygen is an issue, you can pour in hydrogen peroxide at the rate of 1/2 teaspoon per 20 gallons. It will convert to O2 and water.

I had a lightly stocked 55 gallon with angelfish and keyhole cichlids back in 2004 when Florida was hit with a bunch of hurricanes. I was out of town and came home after 5 days with no power expecting the house to smell like dead fish. Surprisingly, everything in my tank was alive.

I would just leave them alone unless they start acting stressed. Then you could do a water change if need be. Also, if you use canister filters, you may want to open them up and pull the baskets out of the water so the bacteria don't suffocate and die. This probably isn't an issue if you have HOB or wet-dry filters.
