Ok here is the situation...3 orange pikes... one looks like its gonna kick the bucket for over a day now but is still alive. The other two atm are kinda ok. One is acting fine... the other a bit eratic. The first one that looks like its about to go for 24 hours now was acting fine, then spazzed out and now just looks like it wants to die... but not really breathing heavy. The other one is now picking up the eratic/spazzing behavior... The 3rd one seems ok atm. They are basically acting like they are losing their function..... the first one (one that looks like it will kick the bucket) kinda seemed like it lost control of swimming function.... (none are breathing heavy)...

We had a redhook that also had this behavior, but after a few hours he seemed to gain control of himself and swam around fine but died within 24 hours . This fish passed away oct 3rd.

Its not the tap water we use.. (although something could still be in the tank water...) I say this as we have two 150gal tanks filled from the same water. One with the issue and the other thus far is doing fine (hoping I dont jinyx myself).

Unsure of what was wrong with the redhook... (I actually thought he was gonna die due to stress frorm recently moving the tank to the new apt. ) I put him in my tank as it was fully setup and in better condition (areated better, etc as we were still trying to set up the second large tank where the pikes are.) The redhook died in my tank. Now none of the other fish in my tank (the 150gal that is doing fine) thus far have any symptoms of anything at all. However in the 150gal that the pikes are in.... in acts as if its spreading extremely quickly. So I have no idea what it is or anything.

There is no external signs of parasites, etc. on the fish... just the eratic swimming. Then they start to swimg only verticle like and then the just kinda go on the side.... =[

If anyone has ever had this issue or might have any idea at all as to what is going on, please let me know.

Needless to say we are clueless =\

I am unsure of their age but we have had them for a good 2-3 years now. They eat shrimp (freeze dried), pellets, occasionally frozen food... they they used to get ghost shrimp once in a blue moon but they havent had those for a year now. Every once in awhile they would get an alage wafer they would steal from the redhook. These are all foods they have been eating from when we first got them. As for how much they are fed... I dont feed them so I dont know but they got meat to them (I dont mean they look fat....).

Tank has been up a bit over a week... nitrates a 5.0 which is the notch above 0... so doing a w/c. w/c normally every 2 weeks.

I dont think its the water they def. have something. I believe the first one has cloudy eyes. None have died yet... one just lays 100% upside down and breathes. The other one rolls on his back then back to his front. Its very stragne behavior. Unsure of the 3rd one but I have a feelilng by tonight he'll be doing the same stuff.

It sounds like it could be a swim bladder disorder most likely caused by and internal bacterial infection, as indicated by the cloudy eye. The spazzing and inability/unwillingness to swim upright is also a good indicator of a swim bladder disorder which may be affecting the swim bladder directly or indirectly as a result of an internal bacterial infection of the surrounding area. Treatment with a broad spectrum antibiotic such as Tetracycline might be the best course of action at this stage.

Yeah swim bladder was one of the thoughts that crossed my head. When I saw the cloudy eye I knew something is def. really wrong/infected, just harder to diagnose when its internal. I ll look into that, do some research and research that treatment, thanks for the suggestion. I ll keep you guys updated.

NP your welcome. Without knowing weather your dealing with gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria it's best to use a broad spectrum to cover the bases. Otherwise you could target with a more specific antibiotic. The Tetracycline will usually do the trick. Good luck let me know how it goes.

Latest update: Just got home, picked up the Tetracycline on the way home, just before the store closed! Will start dosing it. As for the pikes... we lost the first one. The second one is now in the first ones condition in the lay upside down and breathe state. The last one still seems ok so far... but prob is infected also. Not sure if the 2nd can be saved but def. going to try and also reallyyyyyyyyyy hoping at the very least the last one will make it. I ll update you guys with what happens.

well the 2nd one was to far gone..... he passed over night. The last one... however... thus far seems unaffected so I hope it stays that way and he doesnt suddenly get it when I check back in on him later tonight. Its a real bummer though cuse we had m/f group and were just getting ready to do a new nice set up for them =[

That's really beat, I hope this one makes it. It's bad enough to lose one two is really hard to take.
