I've had this little guy about 3 wks. He is about an inch and a half. I'm growing him out in a 40 gal.

API test kit
Nitrate 5.0
Nitrate 0
PH 7.0/ 7.2
Ammonia 0
Temp 79 f
Filters: Tetra fs 30-60 and Tetra Ex 45
UV 9w filter
Gravel bottom, heater, large disk air stone.
Other tank mates: 2 inch female blue acara, 3 inch hairy nose pleco, couple of green cories, some small danio and tetra, one panda gara.

He it almost seems like a lifted scale with white smooth edges. There is also what looks like a loose scale one his side. He is acting fine, fat and sassy, and eating well.

Should I pull him and treat him in a sick tank or wait and see if it gets better? Does it even look like I should be worried. I had. To special order this guy from my lfs...they seem to be hard to get ahold of in my area. I had one before but he was sick when I got him, and did not live long.

Thanks!

Hi Christine, your water perameters seem fine. The picture unfortunatly isn't clear enough for me to get a good idea of what it looks like. From your discription the fish sound healthy and may have just scrapped up against somthing or was fighting with the Acara. Keep an eye in it and if you can get a better picture. See if you can notice if one fish is chasing the other around the tank or fighting going on.

I agree with Aquanero in my opinion it sounds like a wound from scraping something in the tank or from aggression from one of the tank mates, also as said a better pic would help in a definite answer. I wouldn't worry unless you see other signs of stress like excessive hiding, not eating(or spitting food back out), labored breathing, loss of color, slightly cloudy eyes or if the little guy starts hanging out at the surface of the water. If that does happen then yes a little R&R in a sick tank could help. Also I'm not sure if you quarantined the little guy when you got him but you always should quarantine new fish. You never know what disease new fish may be carrying and don't want to pass it on to the rest of the tankmates. Plus it's much cheaper and more effective to treat a small tank with only one occupant which also reduces stress on the new fish making their recovery much more likely. Hope I've helped and good luck with your new little guy.

Thank you for the reply I'm unable to get a clear picture of this little guy. The little guy comes right up to the glass if its just me. The minute I break out a camera he takes off and hides. Such a little bugger.

I don't think that it is aggression from the acara..... They are buddies and hang out together.

The scrape and I'm guessing that's what it really is looks better today seems like it's fading. Going to do a water change today and add a ittle bit of salt when I do.

Guess I'm just really paranoid about this little guy since they're so hard to get and he is such a spunky little character.

It's always better to ask if your not sure. It's good to see he's doing better.
