Baby Green Iguana

Let me make it straight to the point. I saw this baby Green Iguana at the petstore earlier. Just 6-7 inches in length, prisoned in an extremely small dirty plastic aquarium, the baby Iguana could not move a little further even!

The aquarium was so small and dirty that it looked as if the Iguana was choking! Iguana is dirty with a half crooked tail. When it saw me, it started scratching at the aquarium as if asking me to help it...broke my heart. No sunlight nor full spectrum lighting is provided and definitely no calcium supplement either. I can't believe this ignorance! Doing only for money!

This green child is being sold for 150 Malaysian Ringgit. Man my heart says ,"GET IT NOW! SAVE IT!"

My problems and ideas for them:

-I have no space for an Iguana Terrarium, I can let it free roam my room first since it is just 6-7 inches in length.

-I can take it out to provide natural sunlight or at the balcony safely.

-I have vegetables and fruits ( will check online for the required vegetables and fruits ) and I have the sera calcium supplement with me as well since I have a Leopard Gecko.

---------

What do you think? Should I attempt at saving this green child or should I give it up? My heart says go for it...but I need advice. Thank you for your time!

In an ideal world, yes take it. Unfortunately this isn't going to be the only green iguana, let alone reptile, let alone animal that will be suffering at our hands, and you can't save everything. However no one would think less of anyone that takes it on.
But at the same time whats going to happen next... they sold it, they'll get another one as they are selling. Bit of a catch 22... :(

Unless you really have the time and space to devote to it, don't take it. I don't knwo where you live, but I certainly don't recommend letting it roam freely in your room. A 6-7" lizard can escape very easily.

Even though we could all agree that you're saving it from inevitable premature death, as soon as you buy it, the petstore will replace it with another one. Are you going to save that one, too? When does the cycle end? I would take photos of this ones' sad predicament and inform your local SPCA (or equivalent).

Yes I was thinking the same thing, when the buying stops, so will the business. If I buy it would encourage him to bring in more Iguanas and continue treating them like ****. I must not support his business, this isn't the Iguana's fault though...just very saddening. If I could I would just steal the Iguana lol and I would not see that as crime at all..he does not deserve it.

But caring for Green Iguanas is not a joke, this reptile is for advanced keepers. It takes a lot of time and responsibility...and if I buy, as you said, when would the circle end? I can only stop myself from buying...poor Iguana. :(

I have given up on SPCA, I wish I could save them all.

as far as i see it, you have 1 options

1. buy it and report the place

if i were you, i would set up a temporary tank for it, buy it, and then sell/give it to someone who can afford an enclosure for it.

p.s. don't forget to report the place. if we just accept this kind of thing, nothing will ever change.

Yes report them!

I am looking to report. We need a body that would take away licence if the shopkeepers have no knowledge in the animals their dealing with.
