My Texas cichlid has developed what I believe to be fin rot. My water params are good 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and under 5 nitrate except right after I do my weekly wc. Recently my ammonia in my tap has been an astounding 2 ppm. I found this out 2 weeks ago when I moved my current stock (8" oscar, 8" Texas, and 4" dempsey) from my 75 to my new 150. I tested my water right after I filled up the tank with 100% tap water (and prime of course). Safe to say I was shocked when my amonnia levels came back so high. I immediately drained 50% of the water and mixed in the 75 gallons of old tank water along with dosing extra prime. I can't figure out if the stress of the move is what caused this (thought to be fin rot). Or is it the ammonia spike? I've dealt with fin rot with my old fancy goldfish, but I don't want to start treating him unless I'm 100% sure. I also know that the best thing possible for him is clean, amonnia free water which I don't currently have. I should also mention that he is the tank boss (should be no stress there). I'm gonna start doing small bi weekly water changes. Anyone ever been in this situation with their water or know what I should do for him? 1st pic is 3 days ago. 2nd pic is today. Sadly it's getting worse.
