In my 1000ltr tank I have 4 Oscars. Two of them (13" & 9") seem to have paired up and taken control of a very large plant pot. For the last 2 weeks they have been cleaning the inside of the pot and moving the gravel about.

If I approach the tank they both flare thier gills and open their mouths at me, as if to warn me away.

There are no eggs in the pot as yet, but do you thing a pair has formed and they may eventually breed?

Conditions are obvioulsy correct for breeding, as my Red devils are currently gaurding a new batch of eggs at the other end of the tank.

I've never had success breeding any fish in a tank with more than the couple!!
My use to put eggs and they ate soon! So I don't think 2 pairs is a good idea!

Sometimes oscars of the same sex will pair up and "play house". Oscars can be strange fish.

i have a pair of oscars both about 12" in a 150g with 2 14" plecs and a 18" silver arowana. they regularly spawn and i have had loads of babies but they do occasionaly eat the eggs shortly after laying them or go through all the usual cleaning and digging but dont lay. they also can go 2-3 months without laying or they can lay 3 lots in a month.
