i just looked at my tank and there are brown spots, like growths or smudges. Ive been waiting a few weeks before putting fish in because of high nitrite levels. there arent any fish in there. what could this be??

It sounds like a type of algae that grows in high nitrate water. I get it sometimes when I miss a couple water changes. The cool thing is that they consume nitrates to grow. So if you have no fish in the tank, it will go away on its own (may take a while).

wait, so you're saying i should do a full water change, or are you saying that i should let the algae die and wait even longer to get my fish

Algea.....Just scrub off algea with aqaurium approved scubbies from your lfs....If you have a plexi tank, then get a scrubbie made for plexi...You do not want to scratch the glass of a nice plexi tank.

wait so that other person said that i should leave it, you say that i should scrub it. what should i do?
