I've had a few cichlids for around the last year but would like to try a few more now I have a nice new aquarium coming next week.

Current stock:
2x oscars 10"
1x texas around 8"

My goal is a nice agressive community display for my main room but I dont know how I would go about adding to my stock? Do I want big fish or get them smaller? I see alot of people say get all males so should I look for males.

Also I dont know how agressive I can attempt to go and exept it to work , I would love gt's jd's jags but not sure if I have the room.

New tank is 84" 26" 24" 230 gallons, can I get away with some more big rough cichlids in the new tank?

Also would the day I move the fish to the new aquarium be a good chance to add a few tankmates? (I have all the decor from my old tank and 2 mature fx5's already cycled)

Just in need of a plan of action really :)

You should be fine adding a parachromis or two to that stock, Loisellei, Freddie, RTM, or Jag would go great, as long as they aren't overly aggressive to the Oscars. Might have to trial and error it.

If you can set up the new tank first, cycle it of course and introduce the new smaller fish to it, that will probably go much smoother.

As far as male or female, it's up to you, the females, especially parachromis, will be a little smaller and generally less aggressive.

i have never owned oscars, but texas could become a bully to the oscars.do they get along well now? imo you can put 5 or 6 large growing species in that size tank. i would stay with south american cichlids,if you keep the oscars, you can add severums, chocolates, acaras.maybe a schooling fish that gets larger.you could also try some of the mellower centrals, bocourti, pearsei.i would add them at the time of the upgrade or if possible put the new fish in,let them settle for a few weeks, then introduce the others.

Cheer for the input guys, looks like a jag is on my list then as they are one of my favorate fish.

Do you think I will still get a mini cycle in the new tank?

Adding 2 mature fx5's and about 60kg worth of rocks etc to the new tank
