I was just wondering about how many gph I need for a w/d filter for a 75 gallon tank? What size tank should i use for the w/d filter itself? Any info or anything would be helpful, thanks.

id say 300 at the least, with a light stock list. so around 400-500 and your good. for the sump id say a 20 is good

For freshwater, I've had great luck with 3x turnover rate.

Me too! The only difference I have found between my tanks with 8x and 3x is the savings in electricity.

And the sizing in wet/dry's is 1/10 to 1/3 of the tank being filtered and depending on the type of filter media. For a wet sump with ceramic rings or lava rock, you will need to go with 1/3 to 1/2 the tank size if it is to be well stocked. If you use efficient media such as pot scrubbers, you can go with as little as 1/10 the size of your tank (volume of the chamber holding the media).

I just answered to the above thread, and it is almost the same question. There is also other info you may be interested in.

For 3-10 turnovers, you will need 225-750 gph.

Yeah, that's my best friend, he wants to build one too, lol. So 3x should suffice at least... I might try for 5x or something. Thanks though, guys...
