So I am kinda scared for my Oscar. During the 10 day challenge he would not eat the new food I spot feed him twice during those 10 days he ate both times. Then I gave him a cricket I found. Now the challenge is over I went to feed him a nice helping of hikari and he wont eat.

He has been moopy the whole 10 days and often hangs out up at the filter intake. Is it because I gave him a cricket? did I jack up his emotions by not feeding him for those 10 days.

I love my Oscar he is the center of the tank.

Feeding insects found around the house is usually a bad idea because you don't know if they have pesticides or other chemicals.

You spent 10 days trying to get him onto a new food and just when he was probably thinking about it you fed him a cricket. Then to top it all off you went back to trying to feed him hikari which you just spent 10 days trying to get him off of.

I would be willing to bet that poor little O is a bit confused right now. Pick one of the foods, stick with it and do not be tempted to feed any more "treats" until he is eating whatever pellets you choose steadily and without fuss. This may require starving him a again for a few days because he might need to be starved into taking the hikari again.

I was never training him for NLS, He didn't like it and I was fine with that, I was only testing NLS's promise. The reason I didn't feed him Hikari during those 10 days was because its difficult to make sure only he ate it; and I didn't want to skew the test. I spot feed him a couple days to keep his aggression down, however he is probably confused. Thanks I will just wait it out and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip about the insects I thought about that after I did it and felt kinda dumb.

So I will wait it out and see what happens, thanks again sorry to noob it up I just got scared, the whole insect thing was in the back of my mind. You know when you do something and after wards you like well that wasn't very smart.

I know it was only for the test but you were still training him onto NLS for 10 days even though that was not your intention.
Don't be sorry for asking or noobing it up, that is why the forum is here.:)
He should be fine just keep dropping hikari in, he will take it eventually.
Good luck.

Oscars will sult sometimes...Sometimes being a week, oe even two.....Trust me, Oscars will eat AGAIN.

As long as there is food available, your Oscar won't starve to death. Just give it time, it will come around. My fish (not Oscars) have gone through periods of pickiness but have aways come around. Also, I don't think one cricket will do any harm to him regardless of the cricket being exposed to a household chemical or not.
