I noticed a worm wrapped around the roots of my amazon sword as I was replanting it in my tank. :WHOA:It was wrapped around the roots and clinging to them. Not bigger than 1/2" and looked a lot like these pictured. I didn't get the chance to get a pic since my Colombian tetra chomped the thing. This is the first and only time I have seen this in my tank and never have I noticed any parasites on my fish. Not sure if this helps or is related but I have had black khuli loaches in the past (this isn't fry from them is it?) . I'm kinda worried this could be the start of a problem. Any ID or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

May not be anything other than detritus worms. I wouldn't immediately assume they are parasitic, but carefully observe your fish for signs of an infestation. I feel it's most likely non-parasitic since they were around the plant roots. Hard to really identify without a pic...

the worm that is in the low left-hand corner is exactly what it looked like. thats better than a pic i could've presented anyways. It did seem odd that i would just chill under the substrate

Detritus worms look exactly like your picture, live in the substrate, and love just like earthworms. In fact, they are cousin's of the earthworm, and basically do the same thing just underwater. They are very common in outdoor ponds, and can be found in aquariums, especially those with live plants.

just saw a pic of the detritus worm and it looked exactly like the worm i saw in the tank. amazing how similar they look to the first pic i attached ^

Thanks aqua. I'm not as concerned now

They're detritus worms, not camallanus. Camallanus rarely leave their hosts. Doing plenty of water changes, cutting on feeding and doing more gravel vacuuming helps eliminate them.

I'm not worried if thats what they are. my knife will most likey chomp on them anyways.
