Help. Can someone tell me is this rot fin or just normal aro fighting.

I have 2 albino arowana about 6 months old and 12 inches.
However their fins seem to be sherd all the time. I house them with 4 king Kong parrots in a 250 gal tank with 75 gal sump. Arowana and KKP gets along with each other very well.
They swim and eat normally.
I am not sure that’s rot fin or just from fighting.
can someone please help me.

Looks like frayed fins from nipping or fighting.
Are you sure the cichlids aren’t the cause? Do the aros go after each other at all?

Me too, it doesn’t look like fun rot or fighting.
I believe that it’s from the wave maker. It runs 8 hours a day. Let’s see if I turn it off for one week.

If the water is moving fast enough to cause this then you definitely need to go with a smaller unit.
I wouldn’t think it’s that, what kind of flow is it rated for?

I have 2 vortech mp40. I run them on the lowest setting for 8 hours a day.
now they are off, and they aros are doing fine and starting to recovering.

This definitely looks like the results of fighting to me. Are you sure the third aro died of infection and wasn’t killed off too? A healthy fish should never get caught in a wavemaker, and definitely wouldn’t sustain damage all over the body like that.
These fish are telling you that they don’t have enough space to coexist, and eventually they will start removing fish if you don’t.

For me it looks like 100% Fin rot. The problem is that we tend to wait with the treatment because we think it could be other causes.

Fin rot does not nececessary come with the typical symptoms like white fin layer or bloody fin rays. The typical symptoms which I encountered are frayed fins and if the frayed fins do not show ANY signs of healing within 2-3 days it is most probably fin rot.

Treating arowanas with the typical medicine what we can buy in the store CAN help but most of the time it will not (= I am talking about my personal experiences based on BBXBack + Super Red, both 60+cm and adults). The only way I found out to get rid of the bacterial infection is the usage of antibiotics!

Again, I am talking about my personal experiences which I shared herewith...

Thank you for your advice. It was caused by my wave maker. I have them off for 5 days already and all their fins are coming back.
