I just setup my 180 and i cant get the tank down from about 92*. I think the pump is just too hot for it. Is there anything i can do besides a chiller which i really dont want too have too buy or make.
ANY help will be greatly appreciated

thank you-
Dillon

Your air temp is not that high is it?
If not you need to replace the pump, it should not be running that hot and is a safety hazard if it is. Also do the simple stuff, unplug your heater and check your light hood for excess heat, a fan vented hood may help. Also check the tanks surroundings, a freind had a 35g set up on his bar and it was always running hot until it was moved, turns out it was over the bar fridge and waste heat was venting across the back of the tank, another freind found he had accidently set up a tank over a floor vent from the central heating.

air is at 81*, I have no heater(thats plugged in) and no lights. It is next to a window but the blinds have benn closed for a week.

Do you have a heater in there? I just had to deal with a fualty heater that would stay on all of the time even if I turned it down all the way. I tried unplugging it and putting it in a bucket (filled with cool water) and it still kept running hot. I just ended up buying a new heater. :swear:

turn off the pump for an hour or two to determine if it is the pump and see if there's a change in temp, if ithere's a significant change and it is confirmed that it is the pump then you gonna have to replace it(as guppy stated).

even tho u have the blinds down the heat in front of that window will rise up forsur , do u use your AC? ... i am from Prot Charlotte , when i lived there my tank ran high but not anywhere near that

oops. you answered my question before I could even ask. sorry

If the pump is running that hot either some bearings are shot or your coil is about to fail, both can cause fires.

okay, I think it might be that my spray bars holes are 2 small which is causing the pump to work too hard and overheat. I just made a new spray bar with 3/4 in hles and that should cut down the resistane tremendously(old spray bar had 3/8 in. holes)

P.S.- the pump is a brand new mag drive 18, and thats why i dont think its the pump just being bad.

yes i run my ac, my houuse is at about 78*, my heater is in the tank but is unplugged and cool to the touch. The window really isnt concerning me that much becuz it gets NO direct sunlight, plus i have 2 huge oaks that block anything anyway, my pool outside barely ever even gets in the 80's

BTW- Im in florida near St. pete if that means anything
