i know i know i should be using the search thread feature but i dont know about yall but im a little impatient because sometimes it takes me HOURS or most of the time i cant friggen find what im looking for :swear: anywho..i been "trying" to condition my gt pair but i wanna know if i can take out my female fatten her up (1-2 weeks) then reintroduce her back? or will he try n kill her? or maybe it depends on males personality? temperment?

You sound like your on the right track. Its just trial an error until you find what works best with the personalities your fish have. Gt's range from gentle lovers to assaulting rapists.

Is he with her now, and have they paired up or shown any interest in breeding?

yeah there together now..i dont know if you call : gill flaring, swooping around in circles around each other while flaring, littleeeeeee bit of nipping, biting rocks. interested in breeding then yeah...they would do this on and off during the day mostly at night...the owner i bought them from said they were a breeding pair for a while i had them for 2 weeks now feeding them nothing but (frozen bloodworms, 3-4 pellets of hikari gold, 1-2 pellets of cichlid staple) all of what the male eats , female eats little here at there of the bloodworms, which is why i asked if i can separate them so i can fatten her up (with eggs) then i dont know..slip her back in?..

Sure you can try that. But from what you stated about their demeanor sounds like they are about ready to breed. I would keep them together, Feed rich foods every couple hours. Get some bait worms from a gas station or somewhere. These are packed with protein and great for inducing swawning. Feed them as much as they are willing to eat, but dont go crazy. Also do 40% water changes every other day. When you refill they tank, use colder water than you normally would. This should provoke spawning within the next week or 2.
*If shes not getting enough to eat in the main tank you might want seperate her, She definatly will need to be nice and healthy and fat to produce viable eggs.

yeah i agree ..she does need to be a lil fatter...but i think hes more than ready to get it on..its just her eggs arent there quite yet..im going to try and get some trout worms tomorrow and we'll see from there...i've been doing cold water changes lately cause thats what i read from others..and my tank is at 86...i even made a rain bar..but i didnt put it in yet lol

86 is a bit hot. Drop to 76-80 and they will be much more comfortable.
* Make sure they have 2 or 3 nice flat breeding rocks as well.

With mine the female would always cut back on food for about 7-10 days before they would breed. The male on the other hand seemed to get hungrier. I think you might not be far away from some eggs.
