This is just in the planning stages now, but my next project will likely be a nano reef tank. I'm thinking a 5 gal hex should do it for me. I think it would look sweet next to my bed. The goal here will be to do it cheap, and with the least amount of equipment necessary. Because of the size, I don't think any fish will work. I would like to do maybe one or two very small fish if I can, but if not, an invert and coral tank would be sweet too. So, what gear do I need and what stock should I get. I would like to filter only with live rock if possible.
 
I think a 6 gallon eclipse would be just as good and probably cheaper, that shape would definitely be in your favor

For stocking you could go with pretty much any nano goby, if you take care of the tank right you could even do a pair
