i just got 4 6" clown loaches from a friend, his water quality is...well basically not as good as it could be, and my water is perfect where it should be, i tested it before the clown loaches went in.
I have had them over night and they are lying on their sides gasping. they are in a 120g with discus and a silver arow (8"), i have a eheim professinonal 2 and a fluval 304 and a 5" disc airstone on full power. Do you recommend or have any idea what is wrong? do you think it is the sock from the bad water to the good? i acclimatised them for 30mins.

What are your water parameters including pH and temperature. It is possible that they are doing this out of fear, do you have a place were they can hide?

clown loaches normally just lay on their sides and breath fast knock them a lil with a net or something. they will start swimming again. shouldn't worry its just a natural behavior of a clown loach.

Laying on their sides is normal, but breathing fast is not.

Yeh i have kept them before, and i was a shi ttin ma self when i first saw them lie on their sides lol, but these are really really gasping and dont move when u nudge em. Thanks for the quick replies ill have to wait and see i guess.

I bet your pH and his were too different. i had to slowly adjust my pH so that the loaches don't get shocked.

How did you acclimate? Drip?

i use pH down or proper pH 7.0 add the loaches and let it slowly rise back to 8.6
