I have a problem with my convict cichlid!

He's just lying on his side at the bottom of the tank trying to swim but not been able to get very far!

There are no obvious signs of illness he looks fine but is struggling to swim he's been like this for 3 days.

I have checked my parameters and they are all fine even done a water change still not much life in him.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Actually i've just taken another look at him and the inside of his lips look a little scabby and his eye's look like they have a slight blue tint in them.

Does this bit of extra info help ?

Also just noticed that my giant red tail gourami's got some sort of soar on the inside of his lip.

Is this some sort of mite which will spread ?

I have never had a problem like that but The first thing that pops into mind is a contaminated batch of food, do you use pellets? take a sniff and a good look at them and any other dry food. Check for a chemical or bleach smell, and for mold, Either can cause poisoning. Dry food can mold or mildew if exposed to moisture, Pet food manufaturers periodically disinfect their production and mixing vats, it is concievable that some disinfectant was left in a vat. About all you can do in either case is feed the fish some medicated (wide spectrum antibiotic) foods like Jungle brand makes. Some also contain a fungicide, follow the bottles directions. Good luck.

I would still check any dry foods for fungus or mold before using it with other fish, how is the gourami?

Hi Guppy!

I checked all my dry foods and there was no traces of mould or fungus of any kind! I think it's just one of tho's mystery deaths!

The Gourami Had a large soar which looked like an Ulser on a person but that has started to heal. I was going to add salt like Trust sugested but i don't feel the need to as his lip is starting to heal.

Thanks any ways Guppy lad ! :)
