Well im stuck on one of three things. Soo what should I get, a Argentine B+W tegu, a Savannah monitor, or 2 blood pythons? All would be juveniles, and would get necessary caging requirements.. So help convince me if you'd like >.> I have a hard time making decisions...lol.

If you are willing to dedicate the time and space, I think Black & Whaite Argentinian tegus are the best reptile one could keep...

I have an '08 Arg B&W male purchased from Vanyard (Bobby Hill) that I simply could not be happier with. I got it as a 9" hatchling and now it's a 50", 12 lb big sweetie.

They require a very large enclosure. Mine is in an 8' x 3' enclosure (inside cage) and in the summer months he lives on a 6' x 12' deck/balcony. With that experience, I feel an 8' x 3' would be the minimum acceptible size for a male (males get larger than females).

I have a few local friends that have adult Savs. They each argued that Savs can become "puppy tame", but once they met my adult Tegu, they each admitted they do not believe a Sav could ever be as tame as my Tegu is.

I've done nothing special to raise my Tegu. Simply gave it a large enough enclosure, frequent kind attention and a healthy diet. He has been to "Reptile Days" at a local college and did perfect. He visits local Pet Shops with me frequently (as weather allows) and does marvelous. He is completely tolerant of both adults and children petting, poking and pulling at him.

He eats a wide variety of processed meats that can easily (and inexpensively) be purchased at the local grocery store, or he will eagerly eat rats, mice, chicks, etc.

Between a Sav and a Tegu... I'd strongly suggest the Arg B&W Tegu...

But the pythons and Tegus will have both very different enclosure requirements as well as very different care needs. The snakes require far less "hands on" time, can stay in a much smaller enclosure... but on the down side they will require whole prey which is a bit more complicated than ground turkey, beef liver, etc, etc.

Tegu if you can. you will get more out of them than the others and are more unique than a sav and much more interesting than bloods. It will also require some extra work keeping it though.

I am leaning towards a tegu, but I'm not a huge fan of making a larger enclosure inside, and out (the sav is pretty much out). Also chris, what tool did you use to drill the hole in your melamine boamaster?

I used a drill to drill the holes. Makes sense right. :D. all in all it cost me about $8 including tax to make the lights for each of them. I just used the following:

Plus 2 wood screws and a lightbulb.

Basically just cut off the female end of the extension cord and strip a few inches off of the insulation so the wires are exposed. String those through the hole in the cage and then the metal box and fasten them to the back of the light socket so that the wires are not touching each other and are secure. Then use the 2 wood screws to attach the metal box to the side of the cage leaving room around the edges for the light socket which is bigger than the box. Making sure that the wires are secure, feed the wire back through the hole in the cage so that there is no excess and secure the light socket to the electrical box using the 2 screws that are provided with the light socket. Then all that is left to do is plug it in and stick your finger in it :WHOA:

Always test it out and make sure it is working. Once I have it set up, I trim the pull string that turns it on and off. You won't need that if it is set to a timer to begin with. Keep a close eye on it for a while until you know it is not going to catch fire or explode (if the 2 wires touch).

-_- I know you used a drill haha, I was wondering if you used a special one, because the way I was thinking of going about it was drilling or using a jigsaw(?) to cut a hole in the side/top and put the lamp in or rest it on the top. I may try your way though.
