Hi,

I have a 3" Oscar, 2" JD, 2" GT and 1.5" GT. The Oscar and JD have no problem eating whatever falls in the tank but the GTs are picky as hell... They destroy bloodworms and earthworms but will spit out almost anything else.

My current food stock is Large Cichlid Gold, Large Omega One Cichlid Color, Frozen Bloodworms, Frozen brine shrimp and Live earthworms.

What would be a good diet for that stock using the above foods?

Their favorite are the earthworms but Im scared of any complications that may arise from feeding live food so they only get those as a treat about one a week, with the other treat beign the bloodworms or brine shrimp. Then I vary the pellets, Omega One in the morning and Cichlid Gold at night. But the GTs ignore those meals.

My main concern is I'd like everyone eating on every feeding and growing evenly.

Any advise?

I feed once per day, but leave at least 1 day per week without food.
I also feed earthworms, and as long as they don't come from ground sprayed with pesticide or weed killer, or a superfund site they should be fine.
It's aquatic animals and feeder fish that can become a problem, as they can carry parasites and fish diseases.

I kind of have taken the hard core approach... just keep feeding pellets until they get it.

I recently acquired a red bay snook who took to frozen krill and nothing else. So I just stopped feed the krill and it took about three weeks but he is now eating pellets. Train the fish, dont let them train you.

What he said. No matter the outcome, letting the fish force YOU into a feeding regimen is bad news.

Yeah i figured as much. Im still following my regular schedule of daily pellets and they can eat if they want. Theres a small Ralph catfish in there that will be glad to eat it if they dont lol.

The bit about earthworms not beign a threat is great to hear. Ill make those the main weekly treat from now on as i enjoy how much they like them.
