I moved my rd from a 29 to a 75 with a oscar and a pike cichlid. Now my large 7 inch buttikoferi is in the 29 gallon for now

You stated this in a previous thread.

So why don't you take your present RD, oscar, pike, and butti and put them all in the 40 with one of each of the fish you listed.
Then throw in 10 pounds of lunchmeat and sit back and watch the feeding frenzy....

You have to be kidding :screwy: !! Why don't you concentrate on sorting out your present stocking problems without creating more?

My suggestion:
Pick your favorite two (yes, two) fish.
Get the 40 breeder (48X18 I assume?) and put the smaller one in there temporarily.
Put the larger one in the 75.
Take the other two back to the LFS.
Work on getting a bigger tank to replace the 40 (another 75 perhaps?).

the only one you would have a shot with would be the texas cichlid since they don't get quite as large as the others. I still think that is a little small for a Texas to though. I agree with the Jack Dempsey comment. That would be a perfect size for a large mean and aggressive Jack Dempsy. There is absolutely no way with a dovi, butterkoferi or a red terror though. They just get to large and won't be happy in that amount of space let alone the waste they produce. So if it must be one of those on the poll then Texas.

I think u need to research your cichlid list a little more i mean that would be a good tank for them as juveniles but as adults no way could they live there. Even texas cichlids couldn't live there as an adult. All the posts you've made about this the majourity of the responses have been that a 40 is unsuitable for any of the cichlids you want.

well I don't know who is voting for the red terror but a 12-18 inch fish can not live in a 40 gallon tank. And really Redkid is right it would not be very good for texas either but if you are going to do it despite what everybody else says than go with that one.

Why would you want to spend money on a little &$$ 40 gal. tank in the first place. Just buy the tank you really want, justify it to yourself however you have to, and get them all.

I mean, isn't that what you wanted to hear?
