I am interested in setting up a cloning set up for a few marbled crays to use soley as food for my fahaka puffer.

I was thinking about setting up a 30g long tank and dividing it into 3 compartments for 3 marbles to do there thing in. And once the babies became about 1/2" long I would remove them to a grow out tank.
Sound good?

What would the ideal set up be for breeding multiple marbles to get the most babies out of the set up?

Does removing the babies speed up the cloning process or will the adult marble reberry like clock work no matter if the tank has older babies in it or not?

What foods are best for the marbles at all the different stages of growth from newly hatched to full grown?

Thanks for the help

I allready have the marbles at about 3" in length and for now they are in a 20g feeder tank until I get them there own breeding facility. I got them from my LFS where they had gotten into there centeral filtration system and bred like crazy. Until the point where a few got into the pump and caused some problems. So they cleaned them out and are now selling them.

I think that you would get more baby crays by not dividing the tank but rather setting it up as a community for the Marmorkrebs. You should include fresh plants and replace them as they get eaten--anacharis and vals are really good--they eat those the most in my tanks and leave the harder leaved plants like anubius alone. So you can aquascape the tank just need a bit of planning.

Provide plenty of hides for the adult sized Marmorkrebs to keep them feeling comfy in clean water and they will reproduce faithfully for you.

Thats awesome

so just set up a marble cray species only tank with plenty of decor and I am all set?

I am use to breeding fish where you need to remove the fry so that the parents will start the breeding process over sooner.

Thanks for the help

Yup. No need to remove the babies from the adults as Marmorkrebs are most tolerant of the young. They will eat the crayletts at times (all crays are opportunistic feeders) but do not make a habit of it so you will have a few generations in the tank in no time. You will be able to control the population--which is nice. :)

As said before I would keep it a community. I got Alleni's in a tank breeding as a community.

i plan on using some totes with hide aways made from pvc pipe for my breeding factory
