Hello, one of my platinum bichir seems to be sick, but I am not sure what (maybe dropsy?) So any help is appreciated

He has two raised scales with red dots underneath. He also seems to be slightly thicker. One of his eyes is bulging slightly.

Water parameters are 0 ammonia/0 nitrite/10 ppm nitrate/8.4ph (ph is tap ph). Heat is at 77. He seemed to float around the top a lot.

I've had him for 2 weeks, with 1 week in quarantine. He had one bulging eye when I first got him, with no other problems (no redness anywhere, ate fine, and seemed healthy otherwise. I figured the eye was from previous trauma.

I ended up putting him in the main tank after a week since he seemed to be very stressed in it. His one bulging eye never seemed to heal.

I just did a 50% water change earlier, but usually do a 30% every 3-4 days.

Here are some pics

No he is in there with another, younger Senegal and 4 boesemani rainbows. The other Senegal has been in the aquarium for 3 months, and hasn't had any problems. Same with the rainbows.

I'm setting up my quarantine into a hospital, and have kanaplex coming in on Sunday to treat him. Is the anything else I can do?

I suggest just keep observing him until you put the Senegal in the hospital tank.

I personally wouldn't do anything else.

Maybe just an injury. Clean water and some food should clear it up. Update as it goes.

I think you guys are right,. He's gotten better since the water change, the red dot has faded.

I suspect the he may have gotten hurt from my filter intake. It has sharp corners, and he likes to sit under it.
