I just realized my ropefish tank was infected with ich, I blame the new rope who's been in there for a week. He's got a bunch of spots. I noxxed the tank but here's the problem...

I moved 7 guppy fry out of that tank just hours ago (been in the tank about a week as well). I didn't see the ich until after. I put the gups in a fry net in my 55g communiity with all sorts of fish in there (loaches, glass cats, guppies, etc etc tec). Is there a chance they've infected the whole tank? I poured a bit of the rope tank's water in with them, about a dixie-cup's worth or less.

Please help, I need to know if I risk medicating the whole tank now.

I can't heat the tank, it's got weather loaches in it. It's at 78* right now and I wasn't even aware it was that high.

You're going to have to heat the tank to kill the ich fast.. If you don't heat it up, your tank will have ich for weeks, or even months.

you'll know soon loaches tend to pick up ich FAST

Yes there is a chance. I've done stupid things like that before and ended up moving ick that I thought I had eradicated to another tank. The original tank I treated (and had stopped treating already for a week) was fine and I thought all was well. I moved some things from the infected tank to another tank (which had clowns) and a week or so later while feeding my clowns I noticed they had ick!!! Man I was irritated... Funny that the ick from the original tank never came back... but somehow transfered to my tank with clowns in them. Only the clowns in that tank came down with ick and it was BAD and incredibly persistent! I hope you don't get the same result I did... Luckily though it's only ick and easily treatable. If you can't heat the tank and use salt or don't want to, I have had success with Quick Cure at HALF dose. I would start treatment now just to be sure and get it while its not too bad or before it even hits! Such a pain though having to do gravel vac water changes everyday at 24 hour periods and redosing for as long as the ick is visible and two weeks after...

Good luck!

To those who mentioned the loaches, I'm aware of how fast loaches get ich, it's happened once before. But I don't have an explination as to how I should still heat the tank and kill off my loaches. The medication I have is nox-ich, is that safe for loaches and glasscats?
