I have seven discus in a 240 gal tank for about a year. this past week a couple of times a day a random discus will flip out darting back and fort wildly. i dont know why. i lost one discus because of this he darted into the glass and hurt its self were it couldn't recover. i dont get it, they eat fine come over to the tank when they see anyone. theirs nothing that i know of that spooks them. water is superb. oh and after there done darting after a minute or two its like nothing ever happened they eat and act normal. does any know whats going on or any ideas please comment.

i dont think its that they show no symthoms of stress the eat like pigs stool isn't clear and i have a pair that just spawned. and thy have all their color.

What exactly are the water parameters? What test kit do you use?

I had exactly the same symptoms with a group of fry that got infested with intestinal parasites. Doesn't matter how great your aquarium water is, you can still get parasites from newly introduced fish, contaminated tap water (the worst!), not washing your hands before working with your fish, etc. The biggest challenge with intestinal parasites is you must treat two things: 1. the fish internally through medicated food, and 2. you must also treat the water as the parasites live in the solid waste at the bottom of the tank AND in the intestines of the fish. I start with Prazilpro and wait a week to see if it's working. If not, i.e., white stingy feces, strange behavior, etc, then as a LAST RESORT I go with the protocol described at the Rocky Mountain discus website. Use caution with the metro though... you must dose accurately as too much will cause constipation and swim bladder issues. It's not "gentle" like they claim. I always try Prazilpro before I resort to Metro, it works most of the time.
