so i have 2 dachshunds.

cute right?

well the female is in heat and i dont want to breed them yet, as they are still puppies. But the male disagrees. He's gone crazy today, we have them separated. But all he does is want to get to her, he runs out the door when u go out and hes whining/barking to no end. talking to him and rubbing him isnt helping, there out of each others view. i took him for a long walk to try and tire him out. But the dumbdumb is persistent. She is almost done her heat cycle.

how do i calm my dumb horny dog? :irked:

you don't get to calm him down.. you need ear plugs and the patience of a saint. And remember, just because the blood stops does not mean her heat cycle is over. when she is ready to breed is 7 days after the blood stops.. so your little dude is going to get worse before he gets better.

keep them separated.. i keep a minimum of 2 doors between *****es in season and intact males because people in my house don't know how to close a door behind them. and the female only goes outside to potty on a leash or with an escort.

You lock her in one room and him in another. or put one outside one inside. or just let them go at it. nothing says she will get pregnant first try. and if she does who cares, you have a few more daschunds, sell them.

We used to put a little vapor rub on my dog to make it harder for for him to smell the girls when he was locked in the other room . . . if he could smell them he wouldn't eat. Man he lost like 5lbs every time one of our girls was in heat (thats a lot for 25 pound dog).

Ya Hdeuce letting a dog get pregnant on her first cycle would be like letting a twelve year old have a baby.

If you have a friend that could hold the male for a week or so would be best, that's what i had to do with my dogs.. That way he doesn't drive you nutz with the barking and trying to get to her.
