Help! dog in heat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There isn't much you can do to calm him down. "Heat" is a 3 week cycle. So if he has only been acting crazy today....you are maybe halfway through. And yes she can get pregnant the first time around. You are right not wanting her to, puppies for a puppy could kill her. I breed labs and also have a beagle....he howls and whines for 3 weeks straight. I feel your pain. If you go the vapor rub route, put it between his shoulder blades so he can not lick it off. It may help some.

try neutering him or her, preferably her as males can lose personality if neutered too young.

Saved us hours of trouble.

Just my 2c

Ya Hdeuce letting a dog get pregnant on her first cycle would be like letting a twelve year old have a baby.
:ROFL: this quote made my day, thank you.
As far as what to do, I would have someone babysit it, or the other methods if you can deal with the noise. That's about all you can do. Keep in mind the dog knows much better than you when the female is in heat, so untill he calms down significantly I wouldn't risk putting them back together, even if you think she is over it.
GL to you, and I hope everything works out as it should

very good advice.. you're absolutely right that the best gauge of whether the girl is in heat is the male dog..
