I feel so stupid, I bought this Violet Goby back in March not knowing what it was, well now of cource i found out he is to be in Brackish Tank, at this time I am not able to get another tank or set up for him. If I take him to the LFS then they will do to him that I have been doing puting him in FW. Anyone live in Indiana and might want him? He is about 8-10 inches long. He has grown alot since i got him. about 1" a month. Is there anyway he will be able to live in FW? Thank anyone for the help you all may give.

Mine has been living in fw for about two years now. I just use alot of aquarium salt. He has continued to grow and eat just fine. There is another person on here who has had one about three years in fresh. There will be people who say they have to be in brackish and when I get the chance to free up a big enough tank I will go brackish. Until then he does just fine.

thank you for you comment. I will try to continue to keep him until I can get another tank. Do you know any good place to get more info on him? Like how big he will get?

I have heard they can get two feet. Never knew anyone that had one that big. Usually they can't get them to eat so they live long enough. As long as water quality stays good, no real aggressive tankmates and you ensure enough food gets to him he'll be fine.

If its eatting and growing for you I'd keep it in the same conditions you are keeping it in now.
Mines been in fresh water for three years and doing great. The only salt in the tank I have mine in is aquarium salt (1 teaspoon per 5 gallons), and I only use it as a water conditioner.
THeres another member on here (Danny) thats even lowering the salt content on his brackish water tank (for his dragon) and seems to be seeing some improvement with his.

Hey, Dragonfish, hows the sand storm?

Oh, and if no one else has told you, you can't make brackish water with aquarium salt.....
At least that is what the people keep telling me here.

Sweet that is some good news. Well when I bought him he was only about 3" long and I did finally measure him and he is bigger than I first thougth he is actually almost 12". So he is growing almost 2" per month I will be getting a bigger tank in about a month or so unless I can pick up another cheap 55 gallon (last one I got for $20 at an auction with everthing included except for hood). He has been living in my 30 gallon over crowed Guppy tank since day one. About 20 adult guppys and any where from 10-50+ frys, 2 Cory cats, 1 placo he is about 10" now. I haven't ever feed him any thing special just flakes, but he can eat all the guppy fry he wants almost any time he wants to. My Water test are alway good, I do water changes 3 times a week and I try to never over feed. Oh and I also use Salt in my tank at 1 tea per 5 gallons. I don't see any problems with him that i know of at least.

it sounds like your geting it right, just keep on the way your going, read the thread titiled,,that just isn't right,,i think that will help

Ever since I bought him his own castle he has mellowed out.
