Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an Elephant Nose who looked completely healthy and for the record still does. However I noticed one of my clown loaches had a few spots on him and so did my Mango Pleco!! I will list the fish and parameters below, any advice or experience treating elephant nose fish is appreciated. FWIW, i havent had ick problems in this tank, i know i shouldve quarantined but i dont have an available tank right now. :nilly:

Temp: 83
Salinity: .003

Fish:
Black Ghost Knife
Elephant Nose
Clown Hybrid Synodontis
African Butterfly
Mango Pleco
Sultan Pleco
Bristlenose Pleco
Albino Longfin Pleco
Red Tail Hemiodus
2 Clown Loaches

Did you quarantine your new fish? Start quarantining all new fish for four weeks from hereon. Get a 10g for a start. As for your fish, dissolve table salt thoroughly and add slowly. Use a dose of tablespoon per 5g. I've used this with my loaches and catfish with no problem provided the salt is completely dissolved.

buy yourself uv-c. I have a standard 4footer running 25watt debary.
i have 2 elephant nose, 3 ghost knife and few other smaller oddballs in a malawi/tang condition.

Most of my fish are juvi and they are doing really good even though its stocked to the max :(

though I have 2 x 1200litre canister (rena brand) running on the tank with uv-c so I guess my water quality is good :)

i have had ich in this tank that is why i bought the uvc and since (3months) i haven't had an outbreak. I have seen a whitespot on the tail of one of the newer fish i bought but by the next day, no visible ich. I recommend higher output uvc as it will kill most if not all nasties in our tanks.

ps i have done half dose of malachite green/formaline few times and my elephant nose was fine. (before uv was installed)
