Guys i really am worried that i may lose my silver to ascites. I know rallys black died from it and i am now scared my silver will.

It is always my upmost priority to keep my fish well and theres noting i can do now.... i belive there still is hope but i need to hear u guys and if any of ur guys' fish have pulled through such a stupid mistake.

I was feeding ol puff the magic dragon fish my 24" silver some shrimp and i always take the tail off b4 i drop it in his mouth. I pinch off the tail then hold all of them in my hand with my middle ring and pinky finger curled up around the tails and use my thumb and pointer to feed, bleieve it or not when my aro came over for a piece i dropped a tail in his mouth too! not a HUGE tail like some of those freshwater shrimps, like a 3/4 inch long one.

i freaked and even tryed grabbing it out of his mouth and he just cruised away and swallowed it. directly after swallowing he ate some silver sides because i know if a dog swallows bones u feed him as much food as u can to pad his stomach. So i did that but the day after he swallowed it he began gasping a LITTLE bit and would come to my finger some times but not eat... same deal this mornig which means if he doesnt eat today it will be day three after the insident... im worried that his appetite being gone and gasping is directly related to the tail...

has anyone elses arowana eaten a shrimp tail and lived to tell the tail... SHOULD I BE PREPARING A COFFIN!!!

don't sweat it it bro!!!

i feed my aros full shrimp with tail n everything, u guys have to remember there throats are rough as crap n can seriously crush bones with them. if u fed him til he was full 3 days ago, he could go another month and a half without eating lol.

i've had my aros eat alot of stuff they shouldn't. if you think about it, aros eat other fish and there bone structure is about the same hardness of shrimp shells.

omg that makes me feel alot better but i hope he starts acting normal again... the most noticeable thing is hes moving his bottom jaw when he breathes more than normal.

but the spine on there tail protrudes out :nilly: and everyone says remove the tail prior to feeding?

everyone says it as a precaution. but seriously think about it, in the wild they eat birds, lizards, all kinds of bugs n insects. other fish. have faith in ur warrior

Only time will tell. I pull the tails off now, but before rally's unfortunate incedent I did not do this regularly. Luckly I never had any problems. Good luck to you and ol' Puff.

I pull them off as well but I seriously doubt you have anything to worry about. They eat all sorts of things in the wild including crayfish on occasion.

I wouldn't worry about it too much yet.

I just witnessed a TSNxRTC eat a full bag of purigen and survive. After seeing that I think anything is possible.
