I try and give my fahaka lots of shelfish but his teeth seem to be getting a bit long on top. should i jsut keep givin him a strict diet of shelfish like clams and things with hard shells? or should i attempet to try and trim them? Iv herd of peopel with salt water puffers haveing to do this but would rather not. anyone run into this problum? thanks.

this looks scary and nerve racking!

Yes but done easily by many pufferkeepers.

O.O' I WILL NOT GET A PUFFER AGAIN AFTER THIS VIDEO!!! LOL! personally for me though! OMG! thta's ALOT of danger, but hey, if ur addicted to them.. i guess it's worth it =)

What video?

Here is a fahaka's teeth I was hired to go clip:

See how he can't close his mouth?

He is also stunted, living in a 29g tank, at 7".

The first fish I ever owned was a Brazilian puffer. Even though I fed him his proper diet, his teeth still grow too fast. Every three to four months I had to clip his teeth so he could eat properly.
Heres what I used;

-One bucket of tank water
-one bucket of tank water mixed with clove oil. (one drop per 3 cups of tank water)
-one set of nail clippers

Clove oil can kill a fish. So it's a good idea not to mess up the measurements. Better yet research it. You dont want to risk your fish's life on one persons suggestion on the net.
I simply pulled him out of the bucket with regular water and put him in the clove water.
Then after he turned belly up ( takes about 30 seconds) I pulled him out and clipped his teeth.
After I was done clipping, I would put him in the bucket with just tank water.
After a good half hour of recuperating I would drip him back into his tank.

when would a fahaka's teeth be considered overgrown?

When it becomes almost impossible for him to get food into his mouth.
