I'm setting up a 150g and am looking at filtering options. I have a bunch of wet/dry filters along with a few big ehiem classic canisters, but am thinking about just using the wet/dry. Maintenance on them was a breeze compared to the canister. The tank has a corner overflow so water will just be taken from the surface. Will this be ok or should I add a caniter that can suck water from the lower portions? About what size should my wet/dry be?

I have to get new plumbing and was thinking about making a spraybar for the outlet instead of using an open end tube. Will this restrict pump flow too much? What do you guys use for your outlets?

I find canisters alot of work so I prefer a wetdry. Is you or overflow built in or is it the hob type? As for the spraybar I have used capped PVC and drilled holes in it to get the desired flow out of the holes

Good question. I have a ~150 that came with a w/d and a built-in overflow, I'm thinking I'll add a canister for some additional mech but I'm curious to see what others suggest.

I prefer a sump ~20% the size of the aquarium or larger. Remember the sump has to hold the outflow of the aquarium if the water shuts off.

I like additional canister filters for increased flow and increased mechanical filtration. They are a pita to clean, though.

My overflow is built in.

If my sump should be 20% of my tank how much of that should be used for bio-material? I have a few smaller tanks that I can convert into wet drys.

Cleaning the canister filters is a pain! Especially the big Eheim classics. It is heavy and takes forever to open up.
