hello everyone i just bought my first aro today. I've been looking for one for about 6mos now and i stopped in at my lfs to buy some food and wouldn't you know they had one (witch kind of peed me off cause i was on a waiting list and was not called:irked:errr). well needless to say its been there since wed and they say he eats but he didn't when i was there so i paid for him and left him there until he ate. he no longer has the yolk and is roughly 4". if you are wondering what he is going in im startting him in a 30gal(alone) and then to a 72gal i know not big enough but if you have seen any of my other post you know that i have a 300gal acrylic tank coming on Friday. so now you know the facts now i need some info I've done some research but would like to know more. any info on feeding, tank mates(check out my tank setups), and altogether health tips and preventive maint. would be helpful thanks a lot.

Congrats on the new purchase...you won't be dissapointed.

Starting him off in the 30 alone is definitely the best thing for now. I raised my silver in a 40 breeder until he was about 8" before I even considered tankmates for him. In the long run, you can keep him with anything he won't consider food. I keep mine with large catfish, bichirs, and dats.

As far as feeding...keep the meals SMALL and feed multiple times a day. You don't want your little guy looking like he's going to pop, that will only lead to death. I started my guy off on mysis shrimp, bloodworms, krill and then worked in Hikari food sticks, market shimp, and fish fillets (polluck and haddock).

Here's how I rank the methods of preventative maintenance I use:

1. Water Changes
2. Water Changes
3. Water Changes

If I were to add 4 & 5, I guess I would also add Water Changes, and...Water Changes. :D

Best of luck with this little guy. Don't forget to post some pics!!
