Hi, over the past 2 weeks, my tank has been a total mess. I have lost over half my stock to a disease that I cannot seem to identify. Atfer loosing my 10 neons, rubbernose pleco, and farlowella all in a matter of 2 days, I decided the best way to treat it was to add aquarium salt and pimafix, because I believe its a bacterial infection. The signs of the disease were white blotches. After treating the tank for a little while, it seemed as if the infection was gone. I guessed wrong apparently, as it has come back in my tinfoils. They all have the blotches on their body. I have a picture of the tinfoils and some examples of the blotches. Unfortunetly the pictures arn't too great because they came from a phone.

I was thinking I should immediatly start treating the tank again, but was unsure if pimafix was the right way to go. I was wondering if you guys had any idea what it could possibly be, and what I could use to fix it if you think pimafix isnt the right fit for this kind of infection.

Thanks

the disease is visible on the fish closest to the bottom with the picture flipped the wrong way sorry

How long did you have the neons? I had a batch of neons wipe our an entire 90 gallon tank in about three weeks. Neon tetra disease is the only thing I could figure since it happened immediately after adding them and no treatments would work. Lots of species can get NTD as well. White blotches are a symtom and it is incurable unfortunately

Hopefully this is not what you have, but being that you said you lost all your neons I would not count it out. Good luck

The neons wern't the cause, I had them for like a month with no problems at all. I believe the problem came from the farlowella. I bought it from a store that looking back I shouldnt have trusted. I didnt see the tank it was in because I wasnt there when it was purchase(ya I know stupid) and the disease just happened to appear a couple days after I purchased it. I bought it on impulse and I completely regret it right now

Sounds plausible. It would have happened quickly if it was the neons. I find that pimafix and melafix work for lighter duty situations. They are more an aid once recovery has started. Sounds like something more serious.

If you suspect bacterial then Ive had great results with Maracyn and Maracyn 2 together. One kills gram negative. The other gram positive. The combo works very effectively against most bacterial infections. Dont count out a parasitic infection, but if the poo looks normal it's most likely not a parasite. I'd treat for bacterial first then assess the progress. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I know just how frustrating it can be.
