Hi,

I have just arrived home to a night mare 3 fish dead, 3 border line including my large tiger oscar, here what has happened

Yesterday i did my monthy cleaning of my canister filters, Both cleaned out and all media rinsed in tank water (same process i have followed for the last 2 years with no problems)

At the same time i decided that i would change my aquascape to something more natural, so i had a stockpile of bogwood, i had cleaned all the wood with boiling water and let it soak for a few weeks , with regular water changes.

So i put the wood into the tank did my weekly 20% water change sorted the filters and refilled the tank using all the correct water treatment.

When i arrived home from work my 6'' red headed cichlid, one of my clown loaches and my largest silver dollar where dead.

My 8'' tinfoil barb was on his back floating along with another 2 clown loaches and another silver dollar, as well as my 11" tiger oscar just lying at the bottom of the tank

So i quickly removed all the wood and proceded to get more airation into the tank as well as doing a major water change by taking a bucket out and then putting a bucket back in i did this numerous times.

The tin foil barb, the clown loaches and the silver dollar have all come round but the big oscar is still just sitting at the bottom of the tank.

I have tested the water and all results come back clear, i am at a loss here, also the water smelt really bad. it is alot better now with the water change.

Sorry for the long post but would any of you guys have any idea what has happened

thanks in advance for the help

Francis

obviously some type of toxin was introduced. sounds like you did all you can do. If you can do even more water changes, the better. of course trying to keep the pH and temperature the same. a sprinkle of salt wouldn't hurt with volume water changes..

Sounds like what happened to me a few weeks ago. I ended up losing 2 sens and a bowfin to some weird problem. I never found out exactly what it was but narrowed it down to a few things in my tank. I did a 100% wc and used prime to condition the water, you could always try that.

Thanks for the advice. its definitley some kind of toxin. i've done almost 100% water change and kept temperture up by adding some boiling water to my buckets and stress coat. Heres hoping the Oscar pulls round!

The carbon is very important indeed aside from large water changes.

Any new updates so far?
