ok, after a quick research, I noticed a little bit ago that I have many lil translucent things moving quickly all over my 28" achara catfish. My algae eater has a bunch of lil white bumps for a couple months (not ich)...never thought anything of them for some reason. within the last couple of days my catfish has been scratching a lot....It also looks like there's cobwebs at bottom of the sump, underneath the media, altho the sump is fairly clean

before this, my flowerhorn who was kept in her own tank was scratching a lot too. This is over 6 months ago. For the last 2 months, she had a pimple like bump with a head on it. It burst and now there's sometimes a white tuff that will sometimes hang out, but the area around it's red. I already treated her for hole in the head. A week or so after it burst, a bump swelled up beside this hole.

Now, I also have an arowana who's breathing faster, does a chocking motion every once in awhile, and there's something long, flat and translucent hanging out of the bottom of his mouth, near his gills.

Is all this fish lice or fish flukes? I have NEVER seen this before. And, I hate to treat them, as some fish are more sensitive and can die. I do have UV sterilizers on the tanks, except the flowerhorn with the hole and bump.

Sounds like the arowana could have fish flukes (gill flukes).

Maybe the others have lice....

However, if they are all flashing, then they have parasites. A good broad spectrum parasitic medication is: Parasite Clear by Jungle Labs (treats: lice, flukes, worms, fin rot etc...). (I say broad spectrum because we know it's parasitic but could be a combo of many parasites)

I have used it for treating gill flukes and it was awesome! Can get 8 tabs for about $4 at Petsmart/Petco (1 tab for every 10 gallons).

EDIT:

Sounds like Fish lice.

Found this on a site: http://www.angelfire.com/blues/fish_problems/FISHLICE.html

Being the largest fish parasite, it is quite obvious to the naked eye (if you're looking for them). They often reside in protected areas, such as behind the fins or near eyes and gills. The louse will appear clear and somewhat transparent and may be seen moving around. There may also be red markings, ulcers or inflamed areas where the lice have previously been.

Good luck and keep us updated! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

thanks, I actually did check out that website before posting on here. My hubby just tore off the majority of the white dangling thing from the arrowana. Said it came right off without pulling the arowana down. i guess I willl just wait and see if it grows back. We put the broken pieces in a clear cup. Nothings moving.

as for the catfish and cobwebs in the sump...I was thinking maybe it could be the planaria lil worms...I know they make a fuzzy film on the glass with the buggers moving around...but to be laying eggs on the algae eater and them crawling around on my catfish?? I guesss I will be doing massive cleaning of the tanks with moderate water changes every other day and change some feeding habits...I'd hate to medicate...

As for the lice....these things don't look crab like. Just lil' dots that move quickly on the catfish.
