What is the best way to protect my fish tanks when my house for fleas?? ANy help is greatly appreciated!

flea bombs suck we had an outbreak about a year ago we bombed 3 times and they were still here we just had to have a pro come and take care of it... also if you always have your animals on frontline or another comparible product it will help out alot... we had the outbreak when we saved our third cat from the streets and that is why her name is Ally because she lived in the ally behind our house..... but to save your tanks all i did was completely cover the tanks with plastic and seal it with alot of tape... alot of tape and I didnt lose one fish

I've had to do this before. I just covered my tanks with several bed sheets and taped it up. If your using an air pump turn it off. Or use plastic garbage bags, they probably work better. The pesticides cant really penetrate the cloth so it wasn't a problem. GL

thanks a lot...yeah we got a little behind on our flea medicine for our dogs and they got them. just need to get them out of the house and all now.thanks for your help!

wont say what's already been said. Obviously, in a perfect world, those chemicals wouldnt come near your tanks, buuut, crap happens. Good luck with it, just be very thorough!

I have the same problem right now. my cat is an inside cat at least i tries to keep her inside and now she has fleas. I have a ten gal, a45gal, and a 55 gal and my husband thinks it's a bad idea to bomb at all. Is there any kind of good spray someone might be able to suggest??? Oh yeah one more thing what s borax???

Most flea bombs have methoprene, pyrethrins or fiprinol in them and they are all toxic to fish. Be very careful using them around your tanks. Suran wrap the tops really well and turn off all filters and make sure they are sealed off also

borax decahydrate works great for killling fleas. It is a compound that will dehydrate those littlle suckers. Do not use borax soap, It will stain the hell out of your carpet!

psssssssst

use advantage ;)

I've had to do this several times and have not lost any fish in the process. I sealed off the top of the tank with plastic sheets and tape. I turned off and removed the filters while the room was "bombed". Good luck.
