So it's 1 am just going to bed when I find a puddle outside my tank. After 20 mins I find its coming from top part of the filter. Only had this filter a month. Cleaned it for the first time 24 hours ago. It was second hand but before I cleaned it it was 100% now I'm scared to go to bed with a leak any help please.
Thankyou

Sounds like the top gasket may not be seated properly. Try removing the top and making sure that the big o-ring gasket is sitting in the groove properly. Also check that you reconnected the input and output valves all the way until the locking button clicks into place.

The inlet and outlet are dry as a bone. Iv unscrewed the caps a bit to see if iv over tightened but it started to leak more

You can try calling fluval and tell them you lost the receipt. I bought a used fluval canister that was leaking and they sent me a new filter for free lol. Or at least a refurbished one.

It kind of looks like it may have been over tightened. I would remove the lid and check for cracks on the lid and on the canister. I had my fluval 204 do this to me a few months back. Granted, it was old as can be and was made from ABS plastic, but it cracked after I installed a new, off brand oring. The oring ended up looking a little bit thicker and I thought, "oh, great, it should seal really well since its thicker." Um, nope, it ended up cracking the canister and since it was so old I could not find a replacement canister for it. That's when I bought a SunSun 303B to replace it.

Long story short, take the top back off, check the gasket and then check the top and canister for cracks.

I'm just worried that it's 2am and if I open it up and make things worse my tank has no filter. I don't have the money to just buy a new fluval fx5 in the morning

Sorry, I forgot you mentioned what time it is there.

Throw the whole thing in a bucket or tub and deal with it tomorrow. If you want, check up on it if you wake up during the night.
