I just got a fluval fx5 filter. But somehow I think it is not very quiet as people said. The engine is kinda like rumpling all the time. I'm not sure if it is because the air trap or not. But it does not really sound like it. So if anyone had experiences about fx5, please help. Is it normal or am I doing something wrong? I use Eheim filter from the classic to Pro2. THey are way way more quiet compared to this Fx5.

take it apart and look at the impeller. and did you fill it before plugging it in (thats what i did)

To me the noise that you are describing sounds like it may be purging the air out of it. As long as you setup the pump up right there shouldn't be any problems. I own (3) of them and they work well !

The impeller is a brand new one. I just replace it and yes I did fill it all the way up before plugging it in.

How long did it take yours to push all of the air out? I let it run for about 2 hours already. Still very noisy :irked:

Sometimes after cleaning mine out I have to start and stop it several times to purge all the air, but usually over a day it works any stuck air out. Do you see any small bubbles coming out of the returns?

Just for about 1 minute then stop. The weird thing is I had another fx5. It works perfectly and deadly silent . I am guessing this one is a bad one. Thinking about returning it and lose 10% return fee. But If some one can help me out, I would be very appreciated.

do you run sand?
